Drug Offenses

Possession and distribution of controlled dangerous substances

Drug possession and distribution of controlled dangerous substances (CDS) are serious crimes. Upon conviction, these crimes frequently carry stiff sentences, including lengthy incarceration, heavy fines, and a substantial period of probation.

If you have been charged with a drug-related offense, Mr. Healy has the experience and legal expertise to protect your rights at every stage of your case. With more than 35 years practicing law, Mr. Healy has encountered and defended all kinds of drug cases and has helped hundreds of clients who have been charged with crimes in Maryland. He frequently represents clients facing drug charges including:

  • possession of marijuana, heroin, cocaine and other controlled dangerous substances;

  • possession with intent to distribute; and

  • possession of paraphernalia.

An aggressive defense strategy involves tirelessly preparing not only for trial, but also for the sentencing phase of the criminal proceeding in case a client elects to enter into a plea bargain or is found guilty following trial. In many instances, the sentencing stage of a client's case is the most critical part of his or her entire case, as this is when a judge must determine whether to send the client to jail and, if so, for how long.

The difference between being locked up for a significant time and maintaining one's freedom frequently depends in large measure on how well a client's attorney is able to demonstrate to the court that the client has taken the necessary measures toward rehabilitation prior to sentencing.

Mr. Healy works hard to help the court fashion a sentence that will benefit not only the person being sentenced, but the entire community as well. He is also able to assist in locating resources needed to begin drug rehabilitation and/or treatment to hasten recovery from the debilitating effects of drugs.
